General Support Frequently Asked Questions
I don't use my computer very much. Is an online course right for me? You don't have to be a computer expert to take our online courses. All of our courses contain navigation tutorials to help you quickly become comfortable with moving around. And certainly, if you have any questions, don't hesitate to call our Technical Support department. [Return to top] How do I get a username and password? What do I use it for? What should I do if I forget it? During the registration process, you select your own username and password. It should be something that you can easily remember. You will use the same username and password each time you log in to access your course(s). This information is entered in the Student Login portion of our website. If you forget your username and password, just give us a call. [Return to top] I haven't gotten into my course yet, but the My Courses page shows a status of "In Progress". Don't let this confuse you. Your status will change to "In Progress" the first time that you select the course. This is not an indication that you have actually started the course. Your status will continue to show "In Progress" until you finish the course, at which time, it will change to "Completed". [Return to top] Why does my course window disappear when I am working in a course? There is a good possibility that you clicked outside of your course window. When this happens, it seems that your course disappears; however, it is simply hiding behind another open window. Click the tabs in the taskbar at the bottom of your screen to move your course window on top. You can also close all open windows and then log back into your course. [Return to top] I was working in the course and the course froze. What can I do? It sounds like the course has timed out. Close all course windows and log back in. If you are using a wireless internet connection, please verify that the signal strength is high. The course will not function properly if the wireless connection is weak or slow. Please call your internet service provider to diagnose any connection related issues. [Return to top] I walked away from my computer without closing the course. Now when I come back, the course has frozen on me. What happened? Your course timed out. To prevent this from happening in the future, please make sure that you exit your course if you are going to be away for an extended period of time. Close all course windows and log back in. [Return to top] If the course freezes, will it save where I left off? Yes, every course page that you visit is recorded in our database as a completed page. In addition, our course "bookmarks" the last page that you visited, allowing you to return to where you left off when you exit – even if the course locks up for some reason. [Return to top] My system is asking me to download the latest version of Flash. Is this really necessary? Yes. You will not be able to view your course or take quizzes until you download the current version of Flash. Click here to download the latest version of Flash. [Return to top] What happens if I get disconnected from the Internet while I am taking a course? If you get disconnected from the Internet, just log back in. When you sign in to the course, you will be returned to where you left off. [Return to top] How do I check my web browser version? To check your browser version, open your browser, and then select Help, About from the menu bar at the top of the page. [Return to top] Can I take this course with the AOL browser? Although the AOL browser does not work with our courses, AOL users can still take our courses by utilizing a current version of Internet Explorer or Opera in conjunction with AOL. Here's how:
Can I take more than one course at a time? Can I have two courses open on my computer at the same time? No. Our courses are designed to allow you to have only one course open at a time. If you try to open another course while an existing course is open, you will encounter a blank white page. [Return to top] Do I need to use a PC to take the online course? What if I have a Macintosh? Our courses are developed to run on IBM PC Compatible Computers. We do not support MAC use and our Technical Support staff will not have knowledge of the MAC platform. Although we currently do not support the Macintosh platform, we do have knowledge of MAC users who have had success using Opera as their browser.
